R. Douglas Shaffer was born in August 1956 in Seattle, Washington. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Central Washington University and a minor in Business Administration in 1979. Douglas holds Professional Pilots Licenses (Airline Transport Pilot) and moved to Alaska in 1979, where he worked across the state and lived on the North Slope. In 1983, he expanded his career to include being an aviation claims adjuster and aircraft accident investigator. In 1985, he began his journey into the world of insurance by starting to sell aviation insurance. He worked for Equitable Life in 1985 and 1986 and then City Insurance Agency until 1991. At that time, Douglas decided to go out on his own and create Associated Insurance Services. He serves as the President of this company to this day and also has served on the Board of Directors for the Alaska Independent Agents and Brokers for a decade. Over that time, he served as director, treasurer, and president of the association. In his personal life, Douglas has been happily married to his wife Shirley since 1980 and lives in Anchorage with her and his three kids, Jack, Ian, and Mitchiko. He also has two grandchildren, Seth and Alexxa. When he isn’t busy running Associated Insurance or working with his partners at AZ Insurance Services, Douglas enjoys travelling, football, gourmet cooking, gardening, and spending time with his beautiful family.

Anne came to the USA from Cardiff, South Wales, England in 1973 with her husband and 2 children, a boy and a girl who were 4 and 6 at the time. Anne joined the insurance industry in 1980 when she joined a local, independent agency as an assistant to the longtime, experienced agent. He handled the Property/Marine section of the agency's Lloyds of London contract, thereby giving Anne experience in working with the canneries of Kodiak and the many commercial fishing vessels that use Kodiak as their home base. It was her job to rate, assemble, and issue the policies and then file and pay the surplus lines tax reports. Anne worked on the commercial side of the insurance business for 10 years before purchasing her own agency, thereby entering the personal lines business side. Anne joined Associated Insurance in 2007 as a producer with both commercial and personal clients. 

Anne is now the proud grandmother of 5 boys, "a hockey line," 3 from her daughter and 2 from her son. All still in live in Anchorage and spend holidays together on their amazing vacations, like Mexico last year and Europe this year. 

John has been a member of the Associated Insurance Services Team since 2007. John arrived from the Midwest nearly nine years ago when he decided to accompany his friend and his wife on a trip to Alaska. Finding Alaska to his liking, he decided to try employment in the insurance field. He has enjoyed the challenge that the insurance profession offers, especially the opportunity to learn something new every day. John lives in Anchorage and enjoys spending time with his friends and his dog Enu.
